MIND THE GAP
The arc of an idea is both exhilarating and challenging to navigate.
You’ve been blessed with an idea for a new business, product, or service. Though you are excited to take action, bringing the vision to fruition can be scary. Despite your enthusiasm, you’re not always sure what path to take, nor do you understand the process or know what you don’t know.
CLOSE THE GAP
Most ideas follow a similar path, but the right tools and tactics will help prevent you from falling into the strategy-to-execution gap.
You are great at your gift but may struggle with the tasks and activities needed to realize your vision. It can also be overwhelming to assemble all of the parts and pieces of the arc of an idea. And sometimes, short of having someone else do it for you, you just want someone to tell you how to avoid or get out of the gap.
That’s me. I can tell you because I’ve done it.
By the end of this edition, you will understand some steps you can take to follow the arc of your idea and bring it to life.
If a plane is 1° off-course when it leaves LAX on its way to JFK, it will land in New Jersey.
The gap is what happens between idea generation and execution. Everyone agreed on the destination, but not everyone was aligned, the communication wasn’t great, and no one checked on the progress to course-correct.
To avoid the gap, focus on:
Creating alignment to provide clarity and ensure everyone is on the same page. Everyone must commit, whether they agree or not, as long as everyone has a fair opportunity to be heard. The bottom line is if you get on the plane, you agree to go to the destination.
Communicating the details of who, what, when, where, how, and why will ensure all passengers know the destination, the flight duration, and what to expect. Define everything and seek verbal confirmation (just like in the exit row).
Working the plan by following the agreed-upon plan, measuring progress, and adjusting as necessary. If a plane makes it across the country before realizing it’s off course, it’s because no one was monitoring the progress.
Building capacity involves developing high-performing teams, leveling up skills, and using the right tools for the right jobs. Adding capacity doesn’t always mean adding more people; instead, it means better equipping the people you have.
You can still do these things even if you are a solo act. Join a community of like-minded individuals to share your plans with to see if they make sense or to hold you accountable.
The Gap Dēmĭstəfīed was created to smooth the arc of an idea so you can focus on leveraging your gifts to power your personal economy.
As you navigate the arc of your idea, the Gap Dēmĭstəfīed is here to demystify concepts to help you avoid the gap or climb out. Here are the editions to help bring your idea to life.

People get nervous when they hear “business plan.” Having a plan is essential to your business endeavors. Once you have a flight path, you need a plan from point A to point B. But it doesn’t have to be a lot of work. The more flexible you make it in the beginning, the better.
Work the plan and measure progress.
One of the questions I see the most in my communities is, “What do you recommend to do XYZ?” Choosing the right tools for the job is essential. If you’re a small business or a solopreneur, you want to leverage your time as much as possible.

Building the foundation can seem like a lot of work, but once it's done, you’re simply making adjustments. When a plane hits turbulence, it doesn’t turn around and go back; it finds another route to its destination.
